Remembrance and Memorials in Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is a city of law-making and negotiating, but it is also a city of remembrance and honor. There are several memorials and monuments located in the city. All of these memorials honor and remember an individual, a group, or the country as a whole for their acts of service. In total, eight memorials and monuments make up the historic park.

As of Friday, Nov. 18, 2009, at least 842 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Friday at 10 a.m. EST.

NY Police Arrest Man In Deaths Of Mother, Daughter (WCBS-TV New York)

Police in New York have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing deaths of a woman and her 12-year-old daughter in their home in Geneva. Geneva Police officials said John Edward Brown, of Palmyra, was arrested on charges of murder and parole violation. Police say the bodies of 34-year-old Helen Buchel and her daughter, Brittany Passalacqua, were found dead of knife wounds.
